How to download your Instagram chat history.

Use Instagram's official Accounts Center to export old DMs as JSON or HTML, then open the downloaded archive directly in ChatMemo.

Open your archive

Before you start

You need access to the Instagram account whose messages you want to export. ChatMemo never asks for that password and cannot request the archive on your behalf.

Download Instagram message history

Open Download your information in Accounts Center.
Select the Instagram profile you want to export.
Choose the option to download or export information to your device.
Select specific information, then choose Messages.
Select the full date range if you want your complete Instagram chat history.
Choose JSON for the most reliable structured import. HTML is also supported.
Submit the request and wait for Instagram to notify you when the download is ready.

Open the download

Download every part Instagram provides. If you receive a ZIP, keep it intact and open that file in ChatMemo. The archive structure helps the viewer find split conversations and their media.

If your export looks different

Instagram occasionally changes the labels and arrangement of Accounts Center. Look for “Your information and permissions” and “Download your information.” Only use the official Instagram or Meta account interface for the request.
