The complete ZIP is the best option when you want attachments to remain available, because it preserves the folder paths referenced by each message.
How to use it
- Request a message export from Instagram.
- Download the finished archive to your device.
- Open ChatMemo and choose the ZIP directly. You do not need to extract it first.
- Choose your name if the viewer identifies the participants incorrectly.
Can I search old Instagram DMs?
Yes. After opening your archive, ChatMemo lets you browse conversations and search the messages available to your access level. The original archive remains on your device.
Can it recover deleted Instagram messages?
No. ChatMemo only displays conversations included in the official archive you download from Instagram. It cannot recover messages that Instagram does not include in that export.
Private by design
Your messages, photos, and videos are read by browser code on the device you are using. ChatMemo does not upload the imported archive to its servers. Account and purchase records are separate from the contents of your chat files.
